Description
This State Park is a fun place to come and climb since everything from the canyon walls and the gently flowing streams that carved them are pretty and mellow. But that's not to say that the climbing here isn't challenging—really it's just a great mix of sport and trad on really nice limestone conglomerate. There is an excellent diversity of routes throughout the park with most sites having a solid range to satisfy everyone in a group.
The canyon walls are not what you might expect out of a western canyon, especially a state park. The walls are all right around 40-60 feet so there aren't any real multi-pitch climbs. An interesting diversion can be taking a quick hike to see remnants of a failed dam which burst in the 30's sending a 15 foot wave of water into Denver. Park entrance costs $5 and most of the climbing is found closer to the west entrance.
