Description

The Devil's Head Lookout Trail begins in the picnic area adjacent to Devil's Head Campground and ends at the last fire lookout for the Pike National Forest. The trail receives heavy use from nearly 20,000 visitors per year. The Forest Service provides toilets and a water fountain at the trailhead.

Be sure to bring plenty of water for this hike. Although it is only 1.4 miles to the lookout the trail is very steep gaining 950 feet in elevation. Once you reach the lookout you may decide to continue hiking on Zinn Trail, which will make the round-trip distance 3.75 miles. Horses are permitted on this route but not encouraged. The high volume of foot traffic seen on this trail makes horses difficult to maneuver.
