Theodore Roosevelt once said the beauty of Gold Camp Road "bankrupts the English language," and it remains today one of Colorado's most attractive routes. The road follows an old gravel railroad bed up into aspen and pine forest, through tunnels, and past fascinating rock formations. The 10 mile mark is a good turnaround point, since here the road becomes open to vehicular traffic, but riders can also continue on to the historic town of Cripple Creek.
