Several terrain types are readily available to bikers in the Fort Collins region. The foothills of the Arapaho or Roosevelt National Forests are to the west, a paved trail along the Cache la Poudre River is near town, and the flat prairie of the Pawnee National Grassland is to the east.



Foothills Mountain Biking Trail 10 mile round-trip 1 to 2 hours
The Foothills Trail follows the east shoreline of the Horsetooth Reservoir, offering great viewpoints of both the reservoir and Fort Collins.

Hewlett Gulch Mountain Biking Trail Advanced 8.5 mile loop 1 to 1.5 hours
Hewlett Gulch is a fun ride, with steep climbs, fast singletrack, stream crossings, and several rocky sections.

Horsetooth Rock Mountain Biking Trail Advanced 5.5 miles round-trip 1 hour
This trail is a steep climb up to Horsetooth Rock, a large formation that is fun to scramble around on. From the top are great views of Horsetooth Mountain Park, Horsetooth Reservoir, and the Fort Collins area.

Mill Creek Mountain Biking Trail Intermediate

13.3 mile loop 1.5 to 2 hours
This trail is both physically and technically challenging, climbing up the slopes of Horsetooth Mountain and plunging down steep singletrack. From the trail are scenic views of Horsetooth Reservoir, Fort Collins and the plains of eastern Colorado.

Young Gulch Mountain Biking Trail Beginner
Intermediate
10.3 miles round-trip 1.5 to 2 hours
The Young Gulch Trail's stream crossings and shady conditions make this a cool ride in the heat of summer.
