Description

Upheaval Dome Trail loops around both sides of Upheaval Dome (a crater about 3 miles across and 1,200 feet deep containing a raised jumble of rock) and then follows Upheaval Canyon to the Green River. (Of the two, the loop around the southwest side of the dome is more steep and difficult.) A spur trail at the west side of the dome leads into the basin at the dome's center. The trail provides outstanding views of the canyon country, Green River and Upheaval Dome. The last few miles are across open desert and is especially unpleasant during the summer.
