Description

Rockaway Beach has been attracting visitors since 1920 via steam train, before highways were ever built, and Rockaway has never stopped being a great destination to gather with family and friends to build memories…and sandcastles! With over 100 vacation rental houses and 300 hotels rooms, Rockaway Beach is ready to be your destination on the magnificent Oregon Coast. There is a lot to boast about including 7 flat miles of soft sandy beach perfect to enjoy beachcombing, kite flying, and simply drawing in the ocean air while you walk along the shore. Professional and amateur photographers love to capture the ever changing ocean sunsets behind the majestic Twin Rocks with crashing waves or a fishing boat on the horizon heading home for the day. Beach bonfires under the star-lit skies are popular group gatherings. The steam engine train rides are special to this town. The delightful sounds of the train whistle can be heard on a route that has spectacular views of Tillamook Bay, tide pools and the ocean to its destination at Ocean's Edge Park. All aboard!

Rockaway Beach draws new and returning visitors for year round annual events that are family favorites. The Fourth of July parade has both local and visiting groups participating as they march down Highway 101 to the delight of the spectators, followed by evening fireworks that are mirrored beautifully on the surface of the ocean. A variety of festivals throughout the year attract visitors for art, crafts, authors, wine, music and even, Arrrrg! A pirate festival with carnival rides. Other popular events at the Ocean’s Edge Park are the annual kite festival in the spring, and the Christmas tree lighting with carols and an appearance by Santa.

Walk through an abundance of stores, shop for: antiques, treasures old, new, and unique, sweet treats, souvenirs, groceries and amusements. Amid the shops are restaurants which cater to all tastes. Rockaway Beach is sprinkled with lakes and ponds from north to south for fishing and boating. There are trails and a nature preserve for hiking among old growth trees. It’s also centrally located to be your base camp for short trips to other coastal attractions north and south. A trip to Rockaway Beach will be a fond memory for years to come; it’s a place you’ll want to tell your friends about!
