Description

Lower Red Lake Canyon Trail leads to the Colorado River and the beginning of the famous whitewater of Cataract Canyon. You can begin at the Elephant Hill Trailhead and follow 4wd roads for the first 5.5 miles, or drive those roads to a trailhead at Cyclone Canyon. The route consists of lots of slickrock, grassy valleys ("grabens") and a wonderful desert canyon. It offers little shade and tends to be hotter than other trails in summer. The trail ends with a steep 700 foot drop in a 1/2 mile to the sandy banks of the river.
