Cheyenne, Wyoming Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Cheyenne (pop 53000) is the capitol of Wyoming, its largest city and the hub of commerce for the state. The city of Cheyenne was built in the late 1800's on cattle ranching and the railroad system.

Cheyenne's economy is still largely powered by ranching and here rodeo is king! Cheyenne hosts Frontier Days for 10 days every July which showcases some of the best western rodeo riders in the nation, the event attracting more than 300,000 people annually.

Visitors with some extra time to explore Cheyenne will be impressed by the gilded dome of the capitol building and the decadent homes built along 'Cattle Baron Row', mansions built on profits from the lucrative cattle industry at the turn of the last century.

Cheyenne is also home to FE Warren Air Force Base, which hosts a variety of air shows throughout the year and has a rather interesting museum featuring permanent exhibits on military missiles, including the Patriot.

Cheyenne can be easily accessed from all directions on the compass as it sits at the crossroads of the major east/west route of I-80 and the major north/south route if I-25. Visitors will find a variety of accommodation and dining options available in Cheyenne, with almost every national restaurant and hotel chain represented.
