Yankee Boy Basin to Imogene Pass Road

The Yankee Boy Basin road is a pretty and moderately challenging route between Telluride and Ouray. It makes an excellent day trip, with a number of scenic overlooks and places to explore along the way. The route begins relatively easily in Ouray, but becomes more difficult as it rises to a narrow shelf road. A turnoff at the Sneffels ghost town climbs up to Imogene Pass, one of the highest roads in the country at over 13,100 feet. Descending towards Telluride, the road passes the well-preserved ghost town of Tomboy and a series of pretty mountain lakes.
