This paved drive switchbacks up and over Grand Mesa, the largest flattop mountain in the world. It follow State Highway 65 in its entirety. Protected by Grand Mesa National Forest, this rugged forested plateau thrusts up from the surrounding plains. The road follows the edge of the mesa for much of its length, providing spectacular views of western Colorado. Over 300 lakes are located on top of the mesa, providing excellent opportunities for fishing and picnicking. Dozens of marked hiking trails also explore this beautiful area.
