Description
The Midland Bike Trail offers riders a great climb at altitude without the technical aspect. The Midland Trail is part of the ‘Rails to Trails’ program of converting old railroad grades into recreational trails, and thus the trail is free of rock gardens, roots and stumps.
Views from the Midland Trail are grand, with excellent vistas of the 14,000+ foot tall Mt. Princeton and Collegiate Peaks. The Midland Trail features numerous side spur trails that diverge in multiple places, which riders may take to lengthen or shorten the ride. A map does come in handy if riding these side trails as the maze may become difficult to navigate with little knowledge of the area.

The Midland Trail is multi-use so riders may encounter hikers, trail runners and other users and should follow right of way protocol when meeting other groups. In addition, riders should be prepared with a stocked repair kit and a first aid kit.

From Buena Vista, follow Main Street eastbound to the footbridge across the Arkansas River. Follow bridge across river and ride onto the Midland Bike Trail.
