Description
The Cache la Poudre River is the only Colorado river that has received the national Wild and Scenic River designation.
This short river tumbles down from the north reaches of Rocky Mountain National Park through the Front Range, and passes through Fort Collins on its way to join the South Platte River.
Though the terrain the Cache la Poudre passes through is very scenic, the real appeal of this river is the rapids. The Poudre descends rapidly from the tops of the Rockies down to Colorado's eastern plains, and the section most commonly rafted is almost continual whitewater. Powerful hydraulics, steep plunges, and technical rapids make this a thrilling ride for anyone. No prior experience is required on guided trips, but age and weight restrictions are observed.
Half and full-day trips are available starting at several launch points west of Fort Collins. The river travels back east towards Fort Collins, paralleling CO Hwy 14.
