Mexico's Central Pacific Coast - Overview

Sunshine warms the turquoise Pacific waters that splash central Mexico's west shores. From fishing to festivals, lazy beach days to busy cantina nights, this stretch of coast is varied enough to entertain all personality types.

Cliff divers crown the rocky outcroppings in Mazatlan just across from the Baja Peninsula's southern tip. Find world-class sportfishing to supplement days of snorkeling before starting the journey south.

Puerto Vallarta boasts a charming city-center and well developed tourist-oriented infrastructure. For those needing a break from sun and salt, this region has land-based adventure to keep visitors going full-tilt as needed. Take a guided horseback ride down the beach, do some off-road rambling or check out the city's cultural sights.

Occasionally the road to Manzanillo may seem like off-road but it's not. Retreat to the relative calm of small beaches around the bay and enjoy an afternoon of kayaking and sea gulls before retreating to the shade of a beachside restaurant for regional specialties.

Neighbor cities Ixtapa and Zihuatenejo lure in sport fishermen and seafood gourmands. Work up an appetite for a fresh catch with a swim and snorkel around Isla Ixtapa or Playa Manzanillo.

Dry off on the drive down the coast to famous Pacific Coast hot-spot, Acapulco. Long after the cliff divers pack it all in and go home the beaches bustle all the way up to night-time hustle. Catch a cruise out to see sunset or while away the day staking out the best patch of sand before slipping into suitable evening attire.

Don't forget your best bathing suit on a trip down Mexico's central coast. Expect to log plenty of active hours, on shore, on deck and out on the town.
