Literally hundreds of trails explore the Front Range of the Rockies west of Denver. Hikers can also explore the dozens of parks spread throughout the region, and the miles of designated hiking trails near the Platte River or various local lakes and reservoirs.

Inner Canyon Lake Gulch Loop Trail Easy
Intermediate
2 mile loop 1 to 1.5 hours
Takes hikers into Castlewood Canyon by a creek and back out for nice views.

Isabelle Glacier Trail 8.4 mile roundtrip 4 to 5 hours
Wooded terrain, into the Indian Peaks Wilderness, past Long Lake to Lake Isabelle, which sits just below the tree line.

Jefferson Lake Trail Easy

3 mile roundtrip 1.5 to 2 hours
Jefferson Lake Trail circles Jefferson Lake and provides access for fishing.

Jefferson Loop Trail Intermediate
11 mile loop 5 to 6 hours
A wide timber foot bridge crosses Jefferson Creek.

King Lake Trail Intermediate
11.4 mile roundtrip 6 to 7 hours
The trail from Hessie to King Lake traces the source of the South Fork of Middle Boulder Creek through forest, brushy riparian woodland, and wet meadows. King Lake lies in a cirque basin above the treeline, just below the Continental Divide.

Lizard Rock Trail Easy

This trail approaches a rock formation that resembles a lizard. thus the name "Lizard Rock Trail".

Maxwell Falls Trail Easy
4 mile roundtrip 2 to 2.5 hours
One of the easiest trails in the district, Maxwell Falls is a very enjoyable hike.

Meridian Trail Intermediate
6.6 mile roundtrip 3 to 4 hours
This pleasant hike leads to a saddle, which marks the boundary between Pike and Arapahoe National Forests.

A good trail to Mitchell Lake and Blue Lake.

All of the Mt. Audubon Trail lies above treeline.

This trail passes Long Lake and Lake Isabelle on its way to Pawnee Pass.

Payne Creek Trail Intermediate
20 mile roundtrip 10 to 12 hours
Payne Creek Trail climbs gradually through ponderosa and lodgepole pine forests and aspen groves, and then descends into open meadows along Craig Creek.

The Rosalie Trail is a popular trail extending from Guanella Pass to the southeast edge of the Mt. Evans Wilderness. It offers a variety of scenery, including spectacular views of Mt. Bierstadt and the glacial cirque on the south side of Mt. Evans.
