Boulder Colorado - Hiking

Hikers have a number of routes to choose from in the Boulder area. The Indian Peaks Wilderness Area to the west of town has several well-marked and maintained trails, including several "fourteener" peak trails to mountains over 14,000 feet in elevation. The Flatirons, Boulder's signature geological formation, are closer to town and offer a more oxygen-rich hiking experience.

Rainbow Lakes Trail Easy
2 mile roundtrip 1 to 1.5 hours
A series of small lakes and beaver ponds.

Rattlesnake Gulch Trail Intermediate
4.4 mile roundtrip 2 to 2.5 hours
Views of the plains to the east, Continental Divide to the west.

Snowshoe Trail Intermediate
6 mile roundtrip 3 to 4 hours
Fishing hole access.

Woodland Lake Trail Intermediate
9.2 mile roundtrip 4.5 to 5.5 hours
The trail from Hessie to Woodland and Skyscraper Reservoirs follows Jasper and Woodland Creeks through forest, riparian woodland, and wet meadows and into alpine tundra.
