Winter Park Colorado - Introduction
Winter Park Resort is one of the closest ski areas to Denver and is a
favorite of locals. Located in the scenic Fraser Valley high in the
Rocky Moutains, this state-owned park features reasonable rates and
great powder. A large resort, Winter Park offers miles of downhill
runs, rails for snowboarders, and plenty of terrain for skiers of all
skill levels.
The resort is spread over three major mountains: Winter Park, Mary
Jane, and Vasquez Ridge. The three are interconnected by trails and
lifts. Although trails of all difficulty are spread between different
mountains and lifts, they are clearly marked. A special area for
beginners and ski lessons makes newcomers feel at home.
The small village of Winter Park, with a permanent population of
only 700, services the tens of thousands who come to ski at the resort
here. Located at the base of the mountain, the town provides services
to skiers, including groceries, lodging, dining, and entertainment
options. The drive here, twisting up over Berthoud Pass at 11,315 feet
above sea level, is scenic and enjoyable.
Winter Park Resort is about 70 miles to the northwest of Denver.
The resort is located along US 40, between I-70 and Granby.
