Vail Colorado - Whitewater Rafting

The headwaters of the Arkansas and Colorado rivers are both near Vail, offering exciting whitewater challenges. In addition, kayakers can explore the waters of high streams in the nearby mountain canyons.

Colorado River Up to Class V
1/2 day, full day or multi-day
The Colorado River is the major drainage of the southwestern U.S., with most rivers in Arizona, Utah, and western Colorado feeding into it. Though there are several challenging sections for those seeking thrills, on the whole the Colorado is a mild river that winds through beautiful mountain valleys and spectacular scenery.

Colorado River - Glenwood Canyon Up to Class III
1/2 Day or Full Day
Glenwood Canyon is one of the most popular raft trips in Colorado, and once you see its forested buttes, craggy slopes and winding route, you'll understand why.

Colorado River - Gore Canyon Up to Class V
Full day
This thrilling section of nonstop rapids is the highest part of the Colorado that can be rafted. Some of the most extreme and dangerous rapids in the state can be found in this stretch of the Upper Colorado, as its water races through narrow canyons, holes, falls, and whitewater of all kinds.

Colorado River - Pumphouse to Dotsero Up to Class III
1/2 day, full day or multi-day
The Colorado begins to settle down after its tumultuous descent out of the high Rockies, and winds through beautiful mountain canyons and sandstone cliffs.

Colorado River - Shoshone Rapids Up to Class IV
1/2 Day
For those seeking a thrilling raft trip, the Shoshone Rapids is a good option. Though short, this section offers six advanced rapids, including Tombstone, Baptism, The Wall, and Maneater.

Eagle River
The Eagle River, one of the upper tributaries of the Colorado, is easily accessible and has great trout and bass fishing.
