Vail Colorado - Hiking

The Gore Range, which passes by Vail, consists of rugged and pristine mountains and high alpine meadows, offering challenges for hikers of all ability levels. Ambitious climbers can attempt one of Colorado's "fourteeners" with summits over 14,000 feet in elevation, and there are many less strenuous trails leading to mountain lakes or scenic viewpoints.



Deep Creek Trail Intermediate
3 miles/5 km 1-2 hours
Deep Creek Trail follows Deep Creek along the bottom of a 2,500 feet narrow, steep sided cliff bordered canyon.

Dotsero Ute Trail Intermediate
4 miles/6.4 km one way 3 to 3.5 hours
This trail has panoramic scenery, and good wildlife watching.

Hack Lake Ute Trail
The scenery is panoramic and fishing is available.

King Mountain Trail 10 mile roundtrip 5 to 6 hours
King Mountain trail has broad panoramas, and wildlife-watching opportunities.

Sneeve Gulch Trail Difficult
4 mile roundtrip 2 to 2.5 hours
Overlooks the lake providing images of high red sandstone cliffs and Mount Eve.

Sylvan Lake Trail Easy
2 mile roundtrip 1 to 1.5 hours
Trail follows shoreline of Sylvan Lake., and wildflowers are abundant.

Winter Ridge Trail 6 mile roundtrip 3 to 4 hours
Fishing is available in mountain streams, and wildlife watching is great.

Yarmony Trail 2.4 mile roundtrip 1 to 1.5 hours
Yarmony Trail follows the banks of the Colorado River for just over a mile.
