Telluride Colorado Travel Information

Colorado Pinzgauer Tours
Colorado Pinzgauer Tours

Telluride and nearby Ouray are some of the best places for off-roading in the state. There are dozens of trails at various difficulty levels exploring the old mining towns and high mountain passes of the San Juan Range.

Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway Intermediate
58 miles 5 to 7 hours
This nationally designated backcountry route crests two mountain passes (Engineer and Cinnamon) and visits the ghost town of Animas Forks. Though the whole loop can easily be a full day trip, individual segments can make for fun short trips by themselves.

Bolam Pass Road Beginner
24 miles 2 hours
A rough road which passes by one of the country's first uranium mines, this route is relatively easy and passes by a scenic lake.

Carson Ghost Town Trail Intermediate
4 miles 30 minutes
A short side-trip from the Alpine Loop Trail, this steep route provides access to the ghost town of Carson and views from the Continental Divide.

Corkscrew Gulch to Animas Forks Intermediate
11 miles 2 to 3 hours
This challenging trail provides tremendous views of the surrounding mountains as it winds its way over several high passes. Along the way are views of scenic mountain lakes and historic mining ruins.

Cottonwood Creek Intermediate
12 miles 1 to 2 hours
This rough road passes through aspen and spruce stands with frequent views of the surrounding cliffs. Bighorn sheep and scenic waterfalls can both ocasionally be seen along this trail.

Ophir Pass Intermediate
10 miles 1.5 to 2 hours
This fun route climbs a series of switchbacks and shelf roads to a high alpine pass, with great vistas of the central San Juan Mountains.

Yankee Boy Basin to Imogene Pass Road Intermediate
22 miles 3.5 to 5 hours
This pretty and moderately challenging road passes several well preserved ghost towns, climbs to one of the highest pass roads in the country, and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
