Sangre De Cristo Mountains Colorado Travel Information

A number of trails are available in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, including peak trails to 10 of the state's "fourteeners" (peaks over 14,000 feet high). Many of the routes are for advanced climbers only; consult the trail descriptions below or a guidebook to determine if a given trail is within your difficulty level.

The lakes sit below timberline at the base of Thirsty and Lakes Peaks.
Bushnell Lakes Trail Intermediate

The first two lakes are just below timberline, with a small pond and a waterfall between them.
Comanche Trail Intermediate

Dry Creek Trail Difficult

Goodwin Trail Intermediate

Goodwin Trail follows Goodwin Creek to Goodwin Lakes.
Horn Creek Trail Difficult

The trail follows Horn Creek and accesses the Horn Lakes.

Hunts Lake Trail Intermediate

The lake is in a tight basin glacial cirque, with trees on the lake shore.
Lakes of the Clouds Trail Intermediate

There are three lakes in this basin; two are below timberline. Above the basin are Spread Eagle Peak and Mount Marcy

Stout Lakes Trail Difficult

The Stout Lakes sit above timberline in a narrow steep sided cirque near the top of the Sangre De Cristo range.
Venable Trail Intermediate
 11.8 mile roundtrip 6 to 7 hours
Venable Trail provides access to Venable Falls, Venable Lakes and the Phantom Terrace.
