Both the Animas River to the west, and the Rio Grande to the east are raftable during early summer.

Rio Grande River		Up to Class III	1/2 Day or Full Day

	Rafting on the Rio Grande in Colorado is usually done in the upper sections, between the towns of Creede and South Fork. Here in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, the river passes through narrow, rocky canyons with some moderately challenging rapids. Wildlife is common in these remote canyons paralleling the Silver Thread Scenic Byway.
