Montrose is situated in between Telluride and other San Juan ski areas to the south, and the Powderhorn Ski Area to the north, both a little over an hour's drive away. Cross-country skiing is available on the Uncompahgre Plateau and at the Black Canyon, both within 10 miles of the city.
