Loreto Travel Information

For all the water glistening off the shores of the Baja Peninsula, Loreto offers some of the finest served up on soft beaches and framed by rocky mountain crags. Halfway down the peninsula's southeast coast, the small town of Loreto is adorned with the watery gem, Parque Marino Nacional Bahia de Loreto. This marine park encompasses miles of sea and sand for seemingly endless ocean-oriented adventures. Bright fish flash through the warm, clear waters of this protected area.

Snorkel up to make the most of your visit. Join a guided tour to get a feel for the best spots, or take a few days to acquire scuba certification and dive under. Rest your fins with an afternoon of kayaking around the islands just off shore, dodging pelicans and the shadows cast by your paddle on the sandy sea floor.

When the winds blow, hoist your sails and cruise off into the sunset. Have someone else captain the vessel and sit back for a day of fishing with a charter trip.

On days when the waters get too rough, rent a mountain bike and steer for the stretch of surrounding desert. For those after a bigger saddle, take a trail ride mule back and enjoy ancient cave paintings.

Loreto is 84 miles south of Mulege and 74 miles northeast of Ciudad Insurgentes.
