There are all kinds of four-wheel drive trails running through the mountains around Leadville. Outside of summer months, a four-wheel drive vehicle is a necessity if you want to venture off the main highway.

Clear Creek Road	Intermediate	12 miles

Clohsey's Lake Road	Difficult	3.2 miles

Hagerman Pass Road		Intermediate	62 miles	3 hours

	A long stretch of road with some rough sections between Leadville and Basalt, this route passes by several scenic mountain lakes and reservoirs.

Mosquito Pass Trail		Difficult	17 miles	2 to 2.5 hours

	This steep, rocky trail is the highest pass road in America, with spectacular views of the central Rockies available from the top.

Mount Bross Trail		Difficult	10 miles	1.5 to 2 hours

	Climbing to the top of Mount Bross, one of Colorado's highest peaks, this challenging road passes a number of stunning viewpoints and a grove of ancient Bristlecone Pines.

North Fork Clear Creek Road	Intermediate	2.2 miles

Ptarmigan Pass and McAllister Gulch Loop		Intermediate	21 miles	2.5 to 4 hours

	This loop road includes steep forested switchbacks, views of the surrounding mountain peaks, and above-timberline ridge sections.

South Fork Clear Creek Road	Difficult	2 miles
