From Poncha Springs, take US Highway 50 west for about 12 miles to the town of Monarch. Turn right on Forest Road 230 (Middle Fork). This road is located on the north side of Hwy 50, across from the Monarch Mountain Lodge. The road is 4-wheel drive, only and hikers with low clearance vehicle should park and walk up the road to the Boss Lake trailhead. The trailhead is located about approximately 1 mile up the road.
