Great Sand Dunes National Park Travel Information

Piñon Flats Campground offers 88 sites just north of the Visitor Center, with excellent views of the mountains and the sand dunes. The campground is open year-round, but water is turned off during winter and early spring. Campsites cost $12 per night.

Backcountry camping in the dunes or the mountains requires a free permit from the Visitor Center. A limited number of backcountry camp sites are available along the Little Medano Trail.
