Glenwood Springs Colorado - Hiking

There are lots of places to hike near Glenwood Springs, including a paved hiking/biking trail paralleling the interstate through Glenwood Canyon. The White River National Forest office in town has maps and info on local hiking trails.



Boy Scout Trail Intermediate

3 miles/5 km
This trail is within city limits, but don't expect an easy stroll along a paved route. The Boy Scout Trail is very steep and rocky - a serious work out.

Burnt Tree Ridge Trail Intermediate
3.5 miles/5.6 km 1-2 hours
The Burnt Tree Ridge Trail is an old 4WD single lane road that now only sees traffic from hikers and bikers.

Cattle Creek Loop Intermediate
5 miles (8 km)
This trail is part paved surface and part gravel, but don't be fooled into thinking this is an easy hike.

Coffee Pot Road Easy
28 miles (48 km)
The gravel-top Coffee Pot Road is the main access to the Flattops Wilderness Area and connects to Transfer Trail near Deep Lake.

Deadhorse Trail Difficult

The strenuous Deadhorse Trail climbs out of Glenwood Canyon from the Hanging Lake Trail and is very steep and rocky in places.

Deep Creek Trail follows Deep Creek along the bottom of a 2,500 feet narrow, steep sided cliff bordered canyon.

Deep Lake Loop/Transfer Trail Intermediate

This is a long, intense hike and you should come prepared for several days of walking if you want to complete the entire loop.

Doc Holliday's Trail Easy

It’s a half mile to Doc Holliday’s memorial at Linwood Cemetery. He was Glenwood Springs’ famous gunslinging, gambling dentist.

This trail has panoramic scenery, and good wildlife watching.

East Elk Creek/Centennial Trail Intermediate

This trail travels along East Elk Creek through a canyon and waterfalls. Highlights of the walk include the remains of early gold mining camps.

Fisher Creek Trail Easy

From where the trail starts on CR 115, it passes through gorgeous scenery, then merges with Cattle Creek, along which are ponds and historic structures.

Forest Hollow Trail Intermediate

This narrow trail connects the Boy Scout Trail to the Little Grand Mesa Road on the north slope of Lookout Mountain.

Glenwood Canyon Path Easy

For a leisurely walk, the Glenwood Canyon hiking trail is ideal. The paved path hugs the Colorado River for sixteen miles with a mild elevation gain of about 350 feet at its end, just past Bair Ranch.

This trail explores a deep canyon with steep walls and a rambling creek.

Hack Lake Ute Trail
The scenery is panoramic and fishing is available.

Hanging Lake Trail Intermediate

Stunning waterfalls descend into a limestone lake teeming with trout. It’s a mile to the top and 1000 feet up, and takes about an hour and half round-trip.

Hubbard's Trail Intermediate

Hubbard's Trail is a short hike to the overlook of Glenwood Canyon.

This is a tough trail, but from the top, the views of the valley floor, the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers and Mount Sopris make the climb worth the effort.

This rocky trail climbs through a deep canyon to Transfer Trail.

Keyser Creek Trail Intermediate

Keyser Creek Trail follows east Canyon Creek and Keyser Creek up to the Flat Tops. The canyon is narrow; steep sided with cliffs and forested with spruce, fir and aspen.

King Mountain Trail 10 mile roundtrip 5 to 6 hours
King Mountain trail has broad panoramas, and wildlife-watching opportunities.

Little Grand Mesa Road Intermediate
10 miles/16 km
This hiking trail doubles as a rough 4WD single lane. Little Grand Mesa has steep stretches and is very muddy when wet.

Lookout Mountain Road Intermediate
5.5 miles/9 km
This trail is actually CR 120 as it climbs from Spring Valley to the top of Lookout Mountain. The overlook is outstanding and there's an old campground at the end.

Mitchell Creek Trail Intermediate

5 miles (8 km)
This long and tricky hiking trail extends from the end of Mitchell Creek (CR 132) to Transfer Trail.
