Glenwood Springs Colorado Travel Information

There are some beautiful singletrack trails in White River National Forest, and the 13-mile paved trail through Glenwood Canyon is stunning.

Boy Scout Trail Intermediate
Advanced
3 miles/5 km
This trail is within city limits, but don't expect an easy ride along a paved route. The Boy Scout Trail is very steep and rocky - a serious work out.

Burnt Tree Ridge Trail Intermediate 3.5 miles/5.6 km
The Burnt Tree Ridge Trail is an old 4WD single lane road that now only sees traffic from hikers and bikers.

Cattle Creek Loop Intermediate 5 miles/8 km
This trail is part paved surface and part gravel, but don't be fooled into thinking this is an easy ride.

Coffee Pot Road Beginner 28 miles/48 km
The gravel-top Coffee Pot Road is the main access to the Flattops Wilderness Area and connects to Transfer Trail near Deep Lake.

Deep Lake Loop/Transfer Trail Intermediate
Advanced
24 miles/37 km
This is a long, intense bike ride and you should come prepared for some sweaty, thirsty hours.

Dotsero Ute Trail Intermediate 4 miles/6.4 km one way
This trail has panoramic scenery, and good wildlife watching.

Forest Hollow Trail Intermediate
Advanced
5 miles/8 km
This narrow trail connects the Boy Scout Trail to the Little Grand Mesa Road on the north slope of Lookout Mountain.

Glenwood Canyon Path Beginner 16 miles/26 km
For a leisurely bike ride, the Glenwood Canyon hiking trail is ideal. The paved path hugs the Colorado River for sixteen miles with a mild elevation gain of about 350 feet at its end, just past Bair Ranch.

Greenhorn Mountain Biking Trail Beginner
Intermediate
25 miles round-trip 3 to 4 hours
The Greenhorn Mountain Trail follows historic wagon roads through pinyon-juniper and sagebrush vegetation.

Hardscrabble Area Mountain Biking Trail Intermediate
Advanced
10 miles oneway 2 hours
This trail crosses sagebrush and pinion-juniper woodland in lower elevations, before climbing to oak brush, aspen, spruce, and lodgepole pine forest. Scenic views of the Eagle River Valley are outstanding.

Hubbard's Trail Intermediate 0.5 miles/0.8 km Less than an hour
Hubbard's Trail is a short bike ride to the overlook of Glenwood Canyon.

Jeanne Golay Trail Intermediate
Advanced
2 miles/3.2 km
This is a tough trail, but from the top, the views of the valley floor, the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers and Mount Sopris make the climb worth the effort.

Little Grand Mesa Road Intermediate 10 miles/16 km
This biking trail doubles as a rough 4WD single lane. Little Grand Mesa has steep stretches and is very muddy when wet.

Lookout Mountain Road Intermediate 5.5 miles/9 km
This trail is actually CR 120 as it climbs from Spring Valley to the top of Lookout Mountain. The overlook is outstanding and there's an old campground at the end.

Red Canyon Road Beginner
Intermediate
12 miles/19.3 km
Red Canyon Road is a nice biking run in its own right, but also makes an excellent hub trail.

River Trail & Rio Grande Trail Beginner
Intermediate
The River Trail starts at 7th Street and parallels the Roaring Fork River until it joins with the Rio Grande Trail at 23rd Street.

Roan Cliffs Mountain Biking Trail Intermediate
The Roan Cliffs area contains a network of trails through rolling hills covered in piñon/juniper woodlands and grass meadows. The views from the cliffs of the surrounding desert landscape are starkly beautiful.

Spring Valley Loop Beginner 6.5 miles/10.4 km
The Spring Valley Loop gives the biker great views of Mount Sopris and the Elk Range.

Storm King Mountain Road Intermediate
Advanced
5.5 miles/9 km
Storm King Mountain Road is a single lane dirt road from Transfer Trail to the top of Storm King Mountain.

Three Forks Mountain Biking Trail Beginner 11.2 miles round-trip 1.5 to 2 hours
This isolated trail is a great place for a quiet ride among the wildlife and natural beauty of the White River Plateau area. The singletrack climbs steadily up through forest and mountain meadows to an overlook of the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. Riders may return the way they came or continue on for several loop options. Some sections of the trail are overgrown and require caution.

Transfer Trail Intermediate
Advanced
24 miles/38.5 km
The trailhead for Transfer Trail is the main access to the Flat Tops. Transfer Trail itself is a 4WD road that also works as a biking trail and connects to the Coffee Pot Road near Deep Lake.

Wagon Gulch Road Intermediate 6 miles/9.6 km
Wagon Gulch Road is made up of rough 4WD single lane roads that also work as biking trails.
