Durango Colorado - Whitewater Rafting

Local rafting companies offer packages both upstream and downstream from Durango on the Animas River, for various experience levels.

Animas River - Lower Up to Class III
1/2 Day or Full Day
Situated between Durango and the New Mexico border, the lower Animas is gentler and less dangerous than its wild upper section, while still offering some exciting rapids that keep things interesting.

Animas River - Upper Up to Class V
1/2 day, full day or multi-day
The upper waters of the Animas are heaven for thrill-seekers. The river tumbles through canyons in the beautiful San Juan Mountains, providing non-stop technical challenges through Class IV and V rapids.

Rio Grande River Up to Class III
1/2 Day or Full Day
Rafting on the Rio Grande in Colorado is usually done in the upper sections, between the towns of Creede and South Fork. Here in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, the river passes through narrow, rocky canyons with some moderately challenging rapids. Wildlife is common in these remote canyons paralleling the Silver Thread Scenic Byway.
