Durango is something of a haven for biking enthusiasts: the first ever mountain biking world championships were held there, and several annual competitions each year mean a number of bike shops and rental agencies are located in town. Dozens of trails, including many accessible by chairlift, are in the surrounding area, both in the mountains to the north and the desert to the south.
