Formerly known as Purgatory, many of the run names at Durango Mountain Resort were inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, such as Demon, Hades, Styx, and Limbo. With 300 days of sunshine and 260 inches of snow annually, however, Durango Mountain belies the imagery created by its run names.
Whether you’re a skier, snowboarder, snowshoer, or snowbiker, and from beginner to expert—however you find your way up and down, once you’ve been on Purgatory Mountain you’ll understand why it stands apart. With two terrain parks,
a children’s play park, a NASTAR racing course, 85 trails, and 1,200 acres of legendary terraced terrain, the mountain truly has something for everyone.
And that's just in the winter. In the summer, Durango Mountain Resort is an endless backyard filled with exploration, relaxation and excitement. Wildflowers grow thick as grass, trails lead off into the sunset and family members come to reunite. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a place with world class mountain biking trails, hiking and camping, and gold medal fishing waters. Even if you never leave your car, the San Juan Scenic Byway and Million Dollar Highway is gorgeous in the summer.
