Description
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a proud remnant that won the West. Built in 1880, it was a part of the San Juan Extension of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroads, with tracks running from Denver though the ore-rich rocky Mounts to Silverton, Colorado and Santa Fe, NM.
Its path, through steep passes and deep gorges is the stuff of adventure novels and was an engineering feat for the time. The decline of silver mining in the 1890's ended the railroad's vital role.
The most scenic part of the rail which includes 64 miles of the route, along with it's equipment and buildings were saved. Today the C&TSRR fulfills another important mission--taking passengers on the ride of their life---the way it really was.
Open from Memorial Day to mid-October with daily departures out of our two depots at 10AM: Antonito, CO and Chama, NM
Three classes of train rides ranging from $74 to $139. Kids prices available as well.
