How could you not think of Rifle when you think of hunting! Rifle, Colorado welcomes hunters during all seasons! Duck or goose hunting on the Colorado River, pack in by horse or ATV to some of the best deer and elk hunting, or bring your dog to kick up a pheasant or two from the tall grass.
Fishing is a year round activity in Rifle, Colorado. Several area outfitters offer float trip excursions down the Colorado River, or you can just bring a pole and relax down on the banks of any area lake, stream or pond. Brown and rainbow trout are likely not the only wildlife you'll see fishing, as the Rifle area is also home to bald eagles, deer, beavers, fox, ducks, geese, and more!
Of course, a winter vacation to Colorado would not be complete without taking advantage of snowmobile trails located right here in Rifle. Whether you are visiting during the summer or winter seasons, the Rifle area has many trails to explore with a motorized sports vehicle. Volunteers each year grooms miles of trails for snowmobiling on within the White River National Forest and the Flat Top Wilderness area. Other popular snowmobile trails that can be accessed near Rifle are Grand Mesa, Grass Mesa, the Roan Cliffs, East & West Divide Creek, Coulter Lake Mesa and at many more.
If you're feeling really adventurous, Rifle Mountain Park features world-famous rock climbing and ice climbing opportunities. Rifle Mountain Park, a narrow box canyon, located just 13 miles North of Rifle, serves as one of America's premiere sport climbing destinations. The 2.5 miles of steep limestone walls that comprise Rifle Mountain Park contain a wealth of routes. Most of the routes are for advanced climbers, but a beginning climber can still find plenty to have fun with. The climbing season runs from mid-April through late October. Rifle Mountain Park contains an unbelievable concentration of standard setting climbing. Known for it's overhanging enduro-fests, caves and "meat" walls, it's the ultimate rock climber's paradise! With name's like Noble's Wife, Call the Cops, Don't Point That Thing At Me, Swamp Monster, and the Anti-Phil Wall - there are over 100 routes to choose from! When the days get shorter and the temperature starts to drop, the ice-climbing season begins. from late December through March, ice climbers can be found scaling the frozen waterfalls and smears of ice that cling to the limestone walls.
