The Arkansas in Colorado provides some of the best whitewater rafting in the state, as it descends from the central mountains near Leadville through the Rockies down to the eastern plains of the state. There are several sections of the Arkansas River commonly rafted in Colorado, all located west of Colorado Springs between Leadville and Canon City.

Arkansas River - Browns Canyon Up to Class III

From this stretch of the river, often called "the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas," rafters area treated to inspiring views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Cotopaxi Cliffs.

Arkansas River - Pine Creek & The Numbers Up to Class V
1/2 Day or Full Day
The Pine Creek section is a six-mile trip through continuous Class IV- V rapids. The Numbers section is a little less intense but still thrilling, with 8 Class III-IV rapids separated by continuous whitewater and a few plunges.

Arkansas River - Royal Gorge Up to Class V

Sledgehammer, Boat Eater, Wall Slammer and Corner Pocket are names of some of the intense rapids in the Royal Gorge. The steep drop-offs and crashing waves make this a wet, frothy, and exciting ride.
