Boulder Colorado Travel Information

Hikers have a number of routes to choose from in the Boulder area. The Indian Peaks Wilderness Area to the west of town has several well-marked and maintained trails, including several "fourteener" peak trails to mountains over 14,000 feet in elevation. The Flatirons, Boulder's signature geological formation, are closer to town and offer a more oxygen-rich hiking experience.



Arapaho Glacier Trail Intermediate

A fine view into the City of Boulder Watershed, including Silver Lake, Island Lake, Goose Lake, and Triple Lakes.

Arapaho Lakes Trail Intermediate
7 mile roundtrip 3.5 to 4.5 hours
This trail system is in dense subalpine forest, along creeks which lead to dozens of sparkling green lakes.

Arapaho Pass Trail Intermediate
6.5 mile roundtrip 3 to 4 hours
This well-constructed trail traverses a sidehill, crossing steep slopes full of flowers in the early summer.

Baker Gulch Trail Intermediate

Trail crosses over the Grand Ditch. Spectacular views of the Kawuneeche Valley.

The trail from Hessie to King Lake traces the source of the South Fork of Middle Boulder Creek through forest, brushy riparian woodland, and wet meadows. King Lake lies in a cirque basin above the treeline, just below the Continental Divide.

A good trail to Mitchell Lake and Blue Lake.
