Bachelor Historic Loop

This scenic route traces the history of Creede's silver mining district through the rugged high mountains of the San Juans. Interpretive signs and a guidebook relate much of the history of these storied mountain canyons.


 The Basics

Location: Near Creede, in the central San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado
Setting: Mountainous
Surface: Rough Dirt or Gravel
Length: 17 miles
A 4WD vehicle is required for the final two miles of this loop; however, turnaround points are provided for passenger vehicles.
Time to Allow: 1 to 2 hours
Most of the historic attractions along this route require you to get out of your car.
Camping Info: Marshall Park, Rio Grande
Season: Year round, weather permitting


 Directions to Trailhead

Head west from Creede along Bachelor Mountain Road to begin the loop. The loop returns to Creede at West Willow Creek Canyon Road, on which a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended.
