Animas River

The Animas River flows south out of the San Juan mountains, passing through Durango and into New Mexico. It is popular among anglers for its great trout fishing, especially near Durango. More adventurous anglers take the Durango to Silverton Railroad up into the mountains to access the high mountain river. Fishing this river is great when the water is running slow, in early May or August and September.
